Dark Sand

Light and shadow move across the sand dunes of Råbjerg Mile, Denmark’s largest migrating dune. Situated in northern Jutland, this two-square-kilometer landscape shifts up to 15 meters each year, driven by strong coastal winds.

As sunlight changes, it draws out the structure of the dunes — highlighting ridges, revealing textures, and tracing wind-formed patterns. In low-angled light, shadows deepen, transforming the surface into abstract, graphic forms. Ridges sharpen. Curves flatten. Sand becomes shape.

Presented in monochrome, the focus is purely on light, form, and contrast. Without distraction, the eye is drawn to how illumination defines space.
