Dark Tide

In ‘Moliets-et-Maa’ on the west coast of France the lake ‘Courant d’Huchet’ flows into the Atlantic Ocean.

Every day a spectacle is unfolding when water is rapidly moving towards the coast during high tide or is being dragged out into the ocean during low tide. The liberated power of the tides.

This almost static movement of the water at the estuary, where lake and ocean meet, caught my attention. I started observing & documenting the flow of water moving from the lake out into the ocean during sunset.

Through the use of a slow shutter, visually perceived standing waves were turned into dark liquid paintings.
