Sculpted Lines III

In July 2023, I released Sculpted Lines, a series of abstract sand formations photographed at Rubjerg Knude, a drifting coastal dune in the Jutland region of Denmark.

The sequel, Sculpted Lines II, followed in September 2023, focusing on the area around Råbjerg Mile, a migrating inland dune between Skagen and Frederikshavn in Northern Denmark.

Continuing my exploration of abstract sand patterns, I revisited Råbjerg Mile this summer to expand the series. Over two days, I captured various shapes, forms, and patterns, aiming to highlight the fascinating interplay between wet and dry sand.

As wet sand clumps together and dry sand flows freely, dynamic boundaries emerge where the two meet. This interaction creates ripples, lines, and intricate gradients, with darker, heavier wet sand contrasting against the lighter, shifting dry one.

Under the influence of wind and water, these patterns evolve into organic, ever-changing shapes, revealing nature’s ability to craft mesmerizing designs from simple elements.
